Spelling East Cree (Northern) – Punctuation

Punctuation

The only punctuation used in Cree texts for schools are a comma (,) to mark clauses within a sentence and a period () to mark the end of a sentence:

  • ᓂᒧᐃ ᓅᐦᒋ ᐧᐄᒋᒫᓈᓐ ᓅᐦᑖᐧᐄ, ᒑᐦ ᐋᐦᑯᓯᐤ, ᐋᐦᑯᓰᐅᑭᒥᑯᐦᒡ/ᓂᑐᐦᑯᔨᓂᑭᒥᑯᐦᒡ ᒌᐦ ᐃᐦᑖᐤ ᒋᓵᓰᐲᐦᒡ
  • ᒨᔥ ᑳ ᒌ ᐄᑖᑭᓂᐅᐧᐃᒡ ᐊᐧᐋᓂᒌ ᒑ ᒋᔥᑖᔨᒫᒡ ᒋᔖᔨᔨᐤᐦ, ᑯᑎᒃᐦ ᐊᐧᐋᔨᐤᐦ, ᐋᐧᐋᓰᔅᐦ ᑭᔮᐦ ᐊᓂᔮᐦ ᒑᐧᑳᔨᐤᐦ ᐋᑎ ᐃᔨᑖᐱᒋᐦᑖᒡ ᒑᐧᑳᔨᐤ ᐋᐦ ᐧᐄᐦ ᐃᐦᑐᑎᒫᓱᒡ

Additionally, italics are used to mark dialogue and direct speech in a sentence.
