If you listen carefully, you will hear what is called a glottal stop [ʔ] between the stem waapaa- and the inflection suffix -che: waapaaʔche. This sound is the trace of a former syllable that is now gone. The Northern dialect writes it by adding an extra chi: waapaachichaa. In the Southern dialect, people sometimes put an h or a t, but this is incorrect. The decision was made not to write it.
