<\/a>Cree Verb Stems<\/h1>\r\n

The stem of a verb is the main part of the verb, the one that has the basic meaning, even if you change the inflection in the prefixes and the suffixes. If you take a verb like \u1438\u1426\u1473\u14c7\u1434<\/span> pahkaanapuu<\/span> ‘s\/he sits by her\/himself’ , the stem is\u00a0\u1438\u1426\u1473\u14c7\u1431<\/span> pahkaanapi-<\/span>, and -u<\/span> is the inflection (pahkaanapi+u = pahkaanapuu<\/span>) . When you change the person, as in \u1438\u1426\u1473\u14c7\u1431\u14d0<\/span> pahkaanapin<\/span> ‘I sit’, you can see the stem \u1438\u1426\u1473\u14c7\u1431<\/span> pahkaanapi<\/span> with the prefix \u14c2<\/span> ni-<\/span> and the suffix \u14d0<\/span> -n<\/span>.<\/p>\r\n
