<\/a>VTI (Verb Transitive Inanimate) Stems<\/h1>\r\n

VTI verbs can have -im<\/span> or -ham<\/span> stems. For example \u146d\u14c2\u1427\u140b\u1431\u1426\u144e\u14bb<\/span> kiniwaapihtim<\/span> ‘s\/he looks at it’ is a verb with an -im<\/span> stem, \u1405\u1456\u14a5\u1426\u140a\u14bb<\/span> utaamiham<\/span> ‘s\/he hits it’ is a verb with an -ham<\/span> stem.<\/p>\r\n

Stems ending with -im<\/em><\/h3>\r\n

\u146d\u14c2\u1427\u140b\u1431\u1426\u144e\u14bb<\/span> kiniwaapihtim<\/span> ‘s\/he looks at it’ is a verb with an -im<\/span> stem. This -im<\/span> does not appear in all the forms, as some forms have a shortened stem, without the -im<\/span>. For example when we say \u146d\u14c2\u1427\u140b\u1431\u1426\u144e\u14a7\u14a1<\/span> kiniwaapihtimuch<\/span>, we see the stem kiniwaapihtim<\/span> and the suffix -uch<\/span>. When we say \u148b\u146d\u14c2\u1427\u140b\u1431\u1426\u1456\u14c8\u14c2\u1424<\/span> chikiniwaapiht<\/strong>aanaaniu<\/span>, we see the shortened stem kiniwaapiht<\/span>, the prefix \u148b<\/span> chi-<\/span> and the suffix -aanaaniu<\/span>.<\/p>\r\n

The nasal consonant m<\/span> becomes h<\/span> in the 3rd person proximate inflection in the conjunct indicative conjugations (#11 and #12).<\/p>\r\n

Stems ending with -ham<\/em><\/h3>\r\n

\u1405\u1456\u14a5\u1426\u140a\u14bb<\/span> utaamiham<\/span> is a verb with a stem ending with -ham<\/span>. This -ham<\/span> does not appear in all the forms, as some forms have a shortened stem, without the -(h)am<\/span>. For example, when we say \u1405\u1456\u14a5\u1426\u140a \u14a7\u14a1<\/span> utaamihamuch<\/span>, we see the stem utaamiham<\/span> and the suffix -uch<\/span>. When we say \u1470\u1456\u14a5\u1426\u140b\u14c8\u14c2\u1424<\/span> kuutaamih<\/strong>aanaaniu<\/span>, we see the shortened stem utaamih-<\/span>, the prefix ku-<\/span> and the suffix -aanaaniu<\/span>.<\/p>\r\n

The -ham<\/span> ending becomes -haah<\/span> in the 3rd person in the conjunct conjugations (#01, #11 and #12). There is also a shorter form available.<\/p>\r\n
