The absentative pronoun is made up of the demonstrative pronoun<\/a> \u1406<\/span> uu<\/span> or \u140a\u14d0<\/span> an<\/span> plus a suffix. The \u1406\u152e<\/span> uuyaa<\/span> set is used for living humans who are unexpectedly absent, while the \u140a\u14c2\u152e<\/span> aniyaa<\/span> set is used primarily for deceased people. This \u1406\u152e<\/span> uuyaa<\/span> set is not used in Mistissini. The \u140a\u14c2\u1526\u14c0<\/span> aniyene<\/span> set is only used Inland to talk about inanimate missing objects.<\/p>\r\n

Note that the \u1405\u1526\u1426\u1473\u1426<\/span> uyehkaah<\/span> form marks plurality of the possessor in the obviative (for example ‘their late mother’, as opposed to ‘her late mother’). To talk about objects that just disappeared (when you expect them to be there but they are not), there is another absentative pronoun \u1401\u1405\u1427\u1473\u14c2\u152e\u14c8<\/span> eukwaaniyaanaa<\/span>.<\/p>\r\n
