The verb ᐧᐋᐱᓂᒧᐧᐋᐤ waapinimuwaau s/he throws it for him/her is made from the stem of the verb ᐧᐋᐱᓂᒻ waapinim s/he throws it and the verb final -awaau. Finals like -awaau, -amawaau, -shtamawaau add another participant in the event denoted by the verb. The resulting verb means doing something for someone, with someone, to someone or in place of someone. They are called applicative verbs.

Some verbs like ᐅᒥᔅᒋᓯᓂᐦᑭᐧᐋᐤ umischisinihkiwaau s/he makes shoes/moccasins for him/her also add a prefix -u to their applicative derivation.
